Gooey sandwich with mozzarella, pepperoni, and pizza sauce on toasted Italian bread.

# What You Need:

→ Bread

01 - 4 slices Italian or sourdough bread

→ Cheese

02 - 4 slices mozzarella cheese
03 - 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

→ Spreads & Sauces

04 - 4 tablespoons pizza sauce or marinara sauce
05 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

→ Toppings

06 - 8–10 slices pepperoni (optional, omit for vegetarian)
07 - 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
08 - 1/4 teaspoon dried basil

# Directions:

01 - Spread 1 tablespoon softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
02 - Place two bread slices butter-side down on a clean work surface. Spread 2 tablespoons pizza sauce over the unbuttered side of each slice.
03 - Arrange mozzarella slices evenly over the sauce. Top with pepperoni if desired, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, oregano, and basil.
04 - Place remaining bread slices on top, buttered side facing outward, to create two complete sandwiches.
05 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the pan and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is thoroughly melted.
06 - Remove from skillet, let cool for 1–2 minutes, slice diagonally, and serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Its faster than delivery and infinitely customizable for picky eaters
  • The combination of crispy buttery bread and gooey melted mozzarella hits every comfort food button
02 -
  • Low and slow is your friend—rushing the heat will burn the bread before the cheese melts
  • Let the sandwiches rest for a minute after cooking so the cheese sets slightly instead of running everywhere when you cut them
03 -
  • Use a cast iron skillet for the most even heat distribution and best crust
  • If your cheese is not melting, tent the pan with foil for a minute to trap heat without burning the bread
